One of the things that makes our Village strong is the strong moms we have. One of the coolest things we do as a Village is help make our community strong. This month we are kicking off 2018 with a kids' clothing drive. It's Jeanuary! We are collecting jeans for Note in the Pocket.
Note in the Pocket provides needed clothing to children who are identified by various schools and social service agencies in the community as impoverished or homeless and needing clothing to wear to school. Note in the Pocket started in 2005 when a local family began providing clothing for some children in need. The program grew to become a church ministry of Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh. Note in the Pocket notes on their website, "There are 53,000 students in Wake County living in poverty. Your donations provide children well-fitting, weather appropriate clothes to children without."
One of our Stroller Strides Instructors, Heather Welch, is heading this up for FIT4MOM Midtown Raleigh and was touched when her kids' preschool began collecting clothes for Note in the Pocket. She told me, "Our preschool teachers volunteered over Christmas so I started following them on Facebook and read about Jeanuary." Heather went on to say, "My wish for my children is that they are kind. When they were little babies and I would rock them to sleep I would whisper in their ear 'Please be kind.' I hope that participating in giving projects like Jeanuary will help them learn about the kindness in giving. I love the idea of doing it as a group with FIT4MOM! I makes me so proud to see all our moms giving."
This month you can bring jeans to any Stroller Strides, Stroller Barre, Body Back or Fit4Baby class. They need toddler sizes through adult. So many of us are cleaning out closets in the new year. Fill a bag with jeans your kids aren't wearing anymore. Many teens need adult size jeans, so go through your drawers! I know some of you Body Back moms need to buy some new jeans after your amazing results getting fit. Note in the Pocket could use those.
Happy Jeanuary! Thanks for helping our Village make our community stronger.
