We're so excited to be growing our Instructor Team this year! This month we're introducing you to our newest Body Back instructor, Jessica Martin! This North Carolina native and Tar Heel alumna is expecting her second baby and helping more mamas stay fit. Welcome Jessica! Read more about her:
Family- My husbands name is Brad & we will have been married for 9 years this July. He is an Engineer. Connor, my son just turned 4 at the end of January. He's never met a stranger or been afraid to break into dance in the middle of a group. I'm due with our second child on Aug 6th, 2017. I didn't workout at all when pregnant with Connor so I'm excited to stay active during this pregnancy!
Education- Graduated from the University of North Carolina! Go Tar Heels!
Hometown- Goldsboro NC. However my dad was in the military so we moved around some. Got to spend 6 years living in Japan!
Career- Before I choose to stay at home with Connor I worked with BREC which is the Recreation & Parks commission for the parish of East Baton Rouge. I helped manage multiple tennis centers. Assisted in planning & running tennis tournaments, tennis classes & tennis summer camps. I really enjoyed my job & being a part of BREC! It was a hard decision to leave.
What brought you to FIT4MOM? I participated in a Stroller Strides program in Baton Rouge then when we moved to Raleigh in 2016 I started looking for something similar. If I remember correctly I found FIT4MOM Midtown Raleigh on Facebook. Since Connor was starting preschool I decided to check out the Body Back program.
Describe your Body Back journey. I have throughly enjoyed my Body Back journey! My first session was the summer of 2016, followed by fall 2016 & then winter session of 2016. I lost about 15 pounds and toned up! I had worked out since having Connor but this was the first time nutrition was an equal part. I was encouraged to make healthier food decisions & once I saw positive results (losing weight & feeling better) I wanted to continue those decisions! I cannot stress this enough but for anyone who signs up for Body Back, if you attend classes, listen to the advice of your instructors & do the hard work at home (eating healthy!) you WILL achieve your goal!
What led you to become a Body Back instructor? After my first Body Back session one of the instructors casually mentioned to me about becoming an Instructor. I've always enjoyed making workout goals & plans to do at home for myself. Plus I was currently sending daily workouts to two friends who wanted to get in shape. Once I mentioned this to my husband, he wouldn't stop badgering me to fill out an application. He's always believed in me more then I do. I was nervous that talking in front of a group wouldn't come naturally to me & that I didn't have enough fitness knowledge to come up with challenging classes. However, Missy & the rest of the team have all been very encouraging & available to answer any questions. Becoming an Instructor has been a great way for me to continue working on my fitness while also being able to give back through teaching. I miss attending Body Back classes now that I'm pregnant & cant wait to start back once I have this baby!
What would you say to a mom considering FIT4MOM? To any mom considering Stroller Strides or Body Back, do it!! Bite the bullet, take a chance & sign up! You'll find yourself among a group of positive & encouraging women. Many moms begin at different fitness levels & there are always modifications to increase or lessen the intensity. If you're new to Raleigh or you've been here for awhile & haven't found a place where you belong, check FIT4MOM out! You'll make friends & get a good workout in! Plus it's a great example for your kids! The sooner our kids see us eating healthy & exercising regularly, the bigger an impact it can have on their health.
Describe our instructor team. The Instructor Team is a group of amazing women! As a participant of Body Back, each instructor I met was friendly, helpful & knowledgeable about fitness & nutrition. They consistently provided challenging & new workouts. As a new Instructor I've learned that the Instructor Team is filled with helpful & welcoming women! They are all great at producing quality workouts & making each participant feel welcome. I strive every week to become more like them!
What is something no one would know about you? Something someone wouldn't know about me is that as a kid I was obsessed with Very Berry Strawberry ice cream. Every story I wrote in elementary school somehow revolved around this ice cream.
